Research, not advice. This is what I found in public sources about prop trading firms. It is not financial advice or a recommendation to buy any challenge. A challenge is a paid evaluation: most people who try one do not get funded, and the fee is usually not returned. Rules, prices and ratings change often, so confirm everything on the firm’s official site. Some links here are affiliate links, explained in the affiliate disclosure. See the full disclaimer.
Is Apex Trader Funding worth it? My quick verdict
Apex is huge and popular, and that is both its strength and its problem. On March 1, 2026 it replaced much of its old system with “Apex 4.0”, so most older reviews, including ones that criticised or praised it, describe a product that no longer exists. In my Top 10 futures prop firms it sits sixth because rule stability is its weakest point and the evidence for the new system is still thin.
What is Apex Trader Funding?
Apex is a US futures prop firm that has run evaluation accounts since the early 2020s. Reviewers say the 4.0 relaunch removed the subscription model, resets, the MAE rule and the 5:1 risk-reward requirement, and introduced two account types (EOD and Intraday trailing drawdown) with one-time pricing. Different reviewers list slightly different changes, for example whether overnight trading was banned or lifetime payouts capped, so check the Help Center.
How reputable is Apex?
- Public rating: about 4.4 on Trustpilot from roughly 18,000 reviews in one quoted figure.
- Payout evidence: early 2026 write-ups cite figures above $700 million lifetime, a company-side total.
- Stability: poor, because of years of rule complaints followed by a full overhaul.
What do traders praise and complain about?
Praised after 4.0: removal of recurring billing and the most hated rules, plus automated payouts. Even there, sources disagree on the processor (Deel, Plane or Wise are all named), so older articles can mislead.
Complained about or still flagged:
- A 50% consistency rule on the performance account, a $1,000 daily loss limit on the $50K and five qualifying days per payout, per one reviewer.
- An activation fee after passing.
- Older denials for subjective reasons such as “erratic trading”.
Reddit was not reachable from my tools. Look at recent futures-trading threads for post-4.0 payout reports. A competing firm published its own explainer on 4.0; I only used it as a source for what changed, not for judgements.
Which Apex rules should you read before buying?
- Whether you are on a legacy or 4.0 account.
- The drawdown type (EOD or intraday) and daily loss limit.
- The consistency rule and qualifying days for payouts.
- The PA activation fee and whether promo codes affect it.
How much does Apex cost and how do payouts work?
Pricing moved from monthly subscriptions to one-time fees under 4.0, and the split varies by plan, so use the official pricing page. What I would compare is the all-in cost (evaluation plus activation) and the payout rules with Topstep and Tradeify.
Apex pros and cons
Pros
- Very large community and long operating history.
- 4.0 removed several widely disliked rules.
- Automated payout processing, per reviewers.
Cons
- Rules just changed, so there is little evidence of full payout cycles.
- Activation fee and remaining consistency rule.
- Conflicting details across sources.
Who is Apex best for, and who should skip it?
Best for futures traders who want a large, established name and have read the 4.0 rules.
Think twice if you dislike activation fees or want proof from many payout cycles under the new system.
How I scored Apex

Scores are my own editorial judgement from public sources, not a measurement. Weights are shown next to each criterion.
Apex loses most on rule stability. Compare its scores to the nine others in the Top 10 futures ranking.

Reminder: I do not claim that any firm here is safe, that you will pass a challenge, get funded or be paid, or that trading will be profitable. Ratings are my editorial judgement from public sources, which are often affiliate-funded and sometimes disagree. Commissions never change a score. Only pay what you can afford to lose.
