Research, not advice. This is what I found in public sources about prop trading firms. It is not financial advice or a recommendation to buy any challenge. A challenge is a paid evaluation: most people who try one do not get funded, and the fee is usually not returned. Rules, prices and ratings change often, so confirm everything on the firm’s official site. Some links here are affiliate links, explained in the affiliate disclosure. See the full disclaimer.
Is Take Profit Trader worth it? My quick verdict
Take Profit Trader has an easy front door and a demanding back room. The one-step test is straightforward, and PRO accounts can withdraw from day one, but reviewers repeat the same warning: the PRO account’s intraday trailing drawdown ends many accounts. In my Top 10 futures prop firms it ranks fourth, close behind Tradeify.
What is Take Profit Trader?
TPT is a US futures prop firm. Sources give the founding year as 2021 or January 2022 and credit a former professional hockey player, James Sixsmith, as founder. Its flow is a Test phase, then funded PRO or PRO+ accounts.
How reputable is Take Profit Trader?
- Public rating: 4.4 from 8,980 reviews in one comparison and about 4.5 on the Trustpilot page across roughly 9,000 reviews.
- Safety grade: B+ at one tracker, which advises checking recent reviews.
- Regulation: unregulated, like most prop firms.
What do traders praise and complain about?
Praised: payout speed, with some PRO traders requesting a first payout after two weeks. Complained about:
- The PRO intraday trailing drawdown, the dominant theme in negative reviews.
- Closures without clear explanations in an analysis of Trustpilot reviews.
- Support, described as unresponsive by some and praised by others.
I could not read Reddit directly; check recent futures subreddits for payout reports.
Which rules should you read before buying?
- The test rules: 6% target, end-of-day trailing drawdown, 50% consistency and a five-day minimum, with all positions flat by 5 PM ET (per Curved Trading).
- The PRO drawdown switch to intraday.
- The PRO+ split and any fees.
How much does it cost and how do payouts work?
Pricing varies by size. The headline is day-one PRO payouts at about 80% (90% on PRO+), but because of the intraday drawdown the practical question is how long your account will last. Compare with Topstep and TradeDay.
