What is the ICT Venom Model?
I should be upfront: Venom is the model in my ICT research notes where I have the least solid footing. I could not find a primary source. What I found is a handful of community write-ups, and they describe a simple, time-based idea: a pre-open box and a sweep at the open.
How is the box drawn?

- Mark the high and low between 08:00 and 09:30 New York time.
- Wait for the 09:30 open and see whether price sweeps one edge of the box.
- If it sweeps and then returns through the box, look at that as the reversal.
It resembles the Judas Swing, but anchored to a defined box and the cash-equity open instead of the midnight open.
What are the times in IST?
| Item | New York | IST |
|---|---|---|
| Box start | 08:00 | 17:30 |
| Box end / open | 09:30 | 19:00 |
In US winter time (EST), add one hour to the IST column. Check the clock-change dates every year.
What would my checklist look like?

Because the rules are unverified, I would write my own and keep them fixed: how the box edges are defined (wicks or bodies), what counts as a sweep (a tick or a close), what confirms the reversal, where the stop goes, and which target. Then I would log every day, including days with no sweep.
How does it relate to other models?
- Silver Bullet: the 10:00–11:00 window comes right after the open.
- Turtle Soup: also a failed-breakout reversal.
- Power of Three: the sweep is the manipulation phase.
What are the weak points?
- Thin sourcing: rules differ between community posts.
- The open is volatile: spreads widen and fast moves can stop you out before any reversal.
- Time-zone errors: one wrong clock-change assumption shifts every trade.
- Small sample: one setup a day builds evidence slowly. See the journal guide.
